Keyboard
A single-octave, velocity-sensitive keyboard, used to determine the root note of chords.
Chord Buttons
The upper row of Chord Type buttons determine the type of chord, while the lower Chord Modifier buttons add colour and complexity to your chord. Multiple modifiers can be used in combination... just be careful of too much jazz.
Voicing Dials™ (PATENT PENDING)
Orchid’s two Voicing Dials allow you to move fluidly up and down the keyboard, one note at a time, causing a continuous cascade of chord voicing inversions, dramatically altering a chord’s tonal character.
Rotary Encoders
Use the nine rotary encoders to access, modify and save an array of sounds, performance styles and effects. Record, layer, and manipulate musical phrases in real-time, or save it as a loop while switching between 20 pre-programmed drum beats.
Speakers
Two integrated stereo speakers for immediate audio feedback. For when you want to *just jam*.

More features. (Because sometimes more is more.)
With Key Mode activated, any note you play on the keyboard will automatically generate a chord that fits within that key. This frees you from the need to think about complex music theory while you are composing.
Orchid has a dedicated Bass synth engine for when you want to add a layer of thundering bottom end. Bass mode will automatically play the root note of your chord, or you can activate solo mode if you want to take the bassline for a walk.
Overdubbing is easy on the Orchid. Once you've set your loop you can add as many sonic layers as you like, without altering the original loop. Orchid also provides an Undo function, which will remove the last layer you recorded, like it was never there.
Through this single output, Orchid can split your chord information into multiple channels. Harness the true power of MIDI.... with a single finger.

Frequently Asked Questions
Orchid may look like a synth, with a keyboard and some buttons — but it’s not just a synth. It’s an ideas machine, designed to help musicians get out of their head and into the music. Built directly on feedback from The Garden community, this drop introduces a host of new features that expand Orchid’s creative range:
- 10 new sounds. All designed by Kevin Parker.
- Secret Chords. We augmented the options with new chords. Combine chord type buttons to discover them all.
- Loops got better. You can save them now, and if you're mid-loop on a gig and need to get out fast, you can. A hard cut.
- Key Mode. Long press Key dial and then press a keyboard key for quick Key selection.
- GUI updates. There's now a visual display showing exactly where your voicing split sits.
And it’s not just the firmware that’s improved. We sent our Technical Director Tom Cosm to the factory to make sure that every Orchid ships right.
Head to firmware.telepathicinstruments.com for the full overview. If you’ve already got your hands on an Orchid, update your firmware to enjoy the latest features.
Orchid is a new type of instrument, so we’ve been limiting the initial supply of them so we can continue to test, learn and iterate based on user feedback. This crop is built directly on that feedback, and it’s our largest release yet. Still, we’re just getting started. So while releases may become more frequent over time, for now they'll continue to be extra special, exclusively available here in limited quantities.
Great question. The answer is yes.
Orchid offers valuable utility for songwriters, who are driven by exploration and experimentation; producers, who can benefit from the ability to quickly pivot to different genres, sounds and styles; and gear heads, who revel in the unconventional approaches enabled by this kind of cutting-edge technology.
But Orchid is for everyone—from seasoned professionals to those discovering music for the first time. It frees musicians of all skill levels from muscle memory, chord maths and technical constraints, helping them find inspiration without getting bogged down by music theory or needing the dexterity of a trained jazzy pianist.
We've worked really hard to make sure we can send Orchid worldwide. Turns out there are plenty of countries in the world, each with their own unique logistics challenges (who knew?).At checkout, you’ll be able to select your destination country. If it’s not listed, try switching to the correct store: North America ships to...well, North America. International covers most other countries.
For EU/UK customers, Orchids are set to ship from our warehouse mid-May. International orders are ready for dispatch. You’ll receive an email as soon as your parcel is in motion. Once en route, estimated delivery times are 2-5 business days for the EU/UK, and up to 10 business days for international customers. Delivery will be handled by DHL or UPS depending on your region.
The Telepathic ecosystem now extends from hardware to software, allowing you to get your ideas out of your head, into your Orchid, and finally, into your DAW via MIDI. The original synth engine that Kevin Parker used to design the Orchid’s 60 onboard sounds is now available as a plugin giving users:
- Access to the Telepathic Instruments universe of sounds
- The ability to create, customise and save sounds without an Orchid
- Two-way sync with Orchid, allowing you to take sounds on the go and get ideas directly into your DAW
A complete sound editor powered by Orchid’s three custom-designed synth engines (polyphonic subtractive, FM, and vintage EP). Pistil is available as a standalone plugin, or bundled with an Orchid purchase for a special price.
The Garden is how we refer to our community of Orchid owners who have and are helping to shape the evolution of this instrument by sharing feedback, ideas, content and music with us and other Garden members. To participate in The Garden you can:
- Join our Patreon, the home of The Garden and a channel where we share exclusive content and make official announcements for Orchid.
- Join our Discord, a forum for discussion, feedback, troubleshooting, sharing compositions and more. This is the place for us to find what’s on your mind.
- Join us at one of our IRL community meet-up events. We’ve just started in LA and have plans to do more in London and Sydney. Hit us up if you are keen to join.
Of course, any content uploaded by the community will be the property of the author. Telepathic will not post or use anything without express consent.
Yes, you can. Perhaps you already have. Music theory is a deep and wonderful rabbit hole, and we respect anyone who dedicates time and energy understanding how something works.
But what’s the Right Level of music theory? How much technique do you need to practice before you can really play? And if you know enough about music, do you automatically write great songs?
We’ve all been listening to arguments about the Goldilocks zone of music mastery for about as long as we’ve been listening to music. We’ve valorised and vilified the maestros and misfits alike. Some argue that deep musical knowledge gives artists a richer vocabulary, and more tools for nuanced expression. The other believes that too much theory can trap musicians in predictable patterns, self-indulgent showboating, and playing too perfectly. Technically correct, and totally wrong. All brain, no soul.
Telepathic understands this question a little differently. There’s no “right” way or “wrong” way. There’s just whether or not you’re creating something that feels new and relevant to you and your audience. There’s a time for a sitting down and learning your craft. And there’s a time for trying something totally different. It’s not just how much a songwriter or performer does or doesn’t know, it’s the patterns we all get stuck in that inhibits exploration, expression, and ultimately, creativity.
So Orchid isn’t about avoiding theory or getting around practicing your craft. It’s not about creating a “better” system, or replacing practice or knowledge. It’s about shaking up your creative process by learning something entirely new. It’s a tool for anyone who wants to step outside their musical comfort zone, to experiment, and to find what’s on their mind.
For the first Beta Drops only, early customers received an orange carrying case as a gift. Due to popular demand we have now made them available for separate purchase, or to be kitted with new Orchid orders. Current owners who don’t have a case yet will be offered a special price via email. Keep your eyes peeled, and your Orchids safe. We’re just as excited about them as you are.
You can request a return for your item within 14 days of receiving it, after chatting with our team. Email support@telepathicinstruments.com and we’ll get you sorted. However, if we see that you’ve only bought it to make some content on the internet, we might have to talk. That’s not cool. Read more here.
